HWANGE β€” A new era of leadership has dawned in Hwange District, Matabeleland North Province, with the official installation of Ms. Silibaziso Mlotshwa as the substantive Chief Mvuthu. The 31-year-old’s ascendancy brings a close to an arduous 11-year family feud that had contested her right to the throne based on her gender.Β
Her installation on Friday, which saw her assume the traditional regalia of a chief, marks a historic milestone. Chief Mlotshwa is now the first woman to hold a substantive chieftaincy in Matabeleland North and the eighth in Zimbabwe, joining a select group of trailblazing female chiefs nationwide. 🌟
The landmark appointment, made by the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works and effective from May 16, fills a decade-long leadership vacuum left by the passing of her father, the late Chief Nyangayezizwe Mlotshwa, in March 2014.Β
Born on December 5, 1994, in Hwange, Chief Mlotshwa’s path to leadership is distinguished by her extensive community service. According to a representative of the Deputy Minister at the ceremony, she has long been a role model for local youth, having served as a community teacher and worked with the Jafuta Foundation on initiatives focused on empowering women and children.Β
During her inaugural address, Chief Mlotshwa emphasized the crucial role of young people in the development of the Mvuthu community.Β
"Today marks not just the continuation of a legacy, but the dawn of a new era where the voices of our youth will be amplified πŸ—£οΈ and their potential fully harnessed ," she stated, her words resonating with the enthusiastic crowd. "I believe that our young people are the architects of our future , and their energy, innovation , and ideas are vital to the progress and prosperity of Mvuthu. My leadership will be inclusive, ensuring that the concerns and aspirations of the youth are integral to our decision-making processes."Β
Her powerful speech underscored a commitment to fostering an environment where young people can thrive and contribute meaningfully. This focus on youth empowerment, combined with the groundbreaking nature of her appointment, signals a truly transformative period for the district. Community and government representatives alike expressed immense optimism that her leadership will usher in a new wave of development and inclusivity , recognizing gender and age as integral strengths in shaping the future of the Mvuthu chieftaincy.Β
